Saturday Afternoon Clinics
Guitar Maintenance & Tuning
- Saturday, February 11 at 12:00 noon.This 45 minute clinic will cover basic guitar care (cleaning, polishing, etc.). We will be changing strings (available for purchase at the store) so bring your guitar. We will also look at how to check the proper adjustment of the instrument and how to tune a guitar. Acoustic and electric guitars will be covered.
Fee: $10. Preregistration and fees due in advance.
Fingerpicking
- Saturday, March 4 at 12:00 noon.This clinic covers basic fingerpicking.
Note reading is not necessary, but an understanding of basic chords and tab is
needed. We will cover technique, timing, and basic patterns. You will learn how
to apply these ideas to a few simple songs.
Fee: $15.00 for two 40 minute
sessions with a ten minute break. Preregistration and fees due in advance.
Beginning Guitar
(Part 1 of 2)
If you have had the desire to play the guitar, but not the time to get started, or if you would like to get your feet wet to see if you would like to take lessons, this is an opportunity to check it out. We will cover note reading, tab and chord playing, etc. We will even lend you a guitar for the clinic if you don't have one yet.

Learn to Play Chords
(Rhythm Guitar - Part 2 of 2)
After discussing the "chord families", we will take a look at basic rhythms in 4/4, 3/4 and 6/8 time. Flat picking and finger picking techniques will be covered. More material will be covered than one can master at one time but a systematic approach will enable the student to make progress on their own.

Basic Theory
- Two (2) Saturdays, To be announced at 12:00 noon.Starting with note reading theory we will cover subjects such as scales, circle of fifths, intervals, major and minor keys, triads and extended chords. Time: two 40 minute sessions with a ten minute break.

Creative Use of the Capo
- Saturday, To be announced at 12:00 noon. The capo can be used to do more than just change keys. Learn to be more creative with the capo. We will cover the principal and secondary chords in all keys, and how to use the capo to make good sounding accompaniments. Time: two 40 minute sessions with a ten minute break.

5-String Banjo Styles
- Saturday, To be announced at 12:00 noon. In this session we will demonstrate various styles of playing the 5 string banjo. The three finger (Scruggs style) is used in bluegrass. Clawhammer (frailing) is used in old time mountain music. This is open to beginners to intermediate levels. If you are just beginning, this is a good intro. If you have been playing, this is a good look at the different styles. Time: two 40 minute sessions with a ten minute break.
